because when any company reports shipped figures it is figures for consoles that the company has been paid for - thats why its in the FINANCIALS. In other words MS only get paid for their new consoles not refurbs, their shipped figures are figures of xbox's off the production lines. Did sony include repairs of the ps2 faulty disc drive in their numbers? Course not so stop being a fanboy with absolutely no relevant facts or basis for your accusations except MS is teh evils!!!!1!!!
I commend you for trying but it seems your interpretation of financials are abit off.
Yes Sony did change the way they report their figures, they changed from reporting shipped to warehouses to shipped to retailers in line with Nintendo and Microsoft. I repeat no company in the world can know exactly how many consoles are sold they can only know demand roughly from the orders retailers are putting in.

because the dollar has stayed strong with the yen. Its the European markets where the Japanese companies are taking their hits when they export their consoles.
for example here in the UK the pound and the euro have devalued greatly against the yen this year meaning that Sony would have to charge an extra £90 now to get the same profit that they got from selling a ps3 in January. In effect nintendo and sony have passed on price cuts which nintendo can cope with better than sony considering wii's make alot more profit on each console sold.
In short a price cut ain't happening for a while.

I agree that the 360 isn't exactly popular in Japan but recently it has picked up and even in its slow weeks its still 4x more than it was selling last year. But yeah when we see WKC the ps3 should move away again. And when we see monster hunter 3 on the wii then that be the boost to end all boosts!

and it is just frustration and disapointment that the ps3 is going to perform more like the gamecube than the ps2 in sales. But the ps3 still has great games (like the gamecube did and I loved it) so why should sales matter. Sony is no longer number 1 but hey they are still here and have been taken down a notch from their unbeliveably arrogant 2005. We are seeing a different better sony now focusing on the games.

About the 360 in Japan it has had a remarkable turnaround and well done ms but it will never keep up with the ps3 never mind te wii in teh long run.
Not just MS! From this news we can tell that MS is not at 25 million in people's homes but 25 million in stores. So for actual numbers in people's homes take 1-2 million off.
Same goes for sony and nintendo's numbers.
All ship to retailers because there is no way of knowing accurate numbers of sold to consumers. Thats why services such as NPD exist!

damn right. The 10 year plan doesn't mean the ps3 will be sony's primary console until 2016 thats just stupid. If they really plan to do this they will get killed on the market.
The ps2 looks like it may make 10 years on the market which is a fantastic achievement but it is helped infinately by being the best selling console of last gen. The ps3 doesn't have this luxury. How can the ps3 sell with future consoles when it can barely keep up this gen? The ps2 is already 8 million...
and it has the best games of any system, home consoles included. I can't wait for chrono trigger!
